What is PrEP?

PrEP stands for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis, which means the ability to take a medication to reduce the chances of acquiring HIV.

PrEP is one of the greatest advancements in prevention of HIV transmission. Anyone who determines they could be exposed to acquiring HIV infection should receive it.

There are multiple options for PrEP, including daily oral medications, or long-acting injectables (LAI), which have been shown to be very effective to prevent acquiring HIV. We can prescribe and administer them in the clinic, and we will help with the insurance approval process if required.

We offer all forms of PrEP. Using shared decision making our team of experts will help you develop a plan that fits your preferences and lifestyle.

What is DoxyPEP?

DoxyPEP can be described as the “morning after pill” for sexually transmitted bacterial infections (STIs) syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia.
It is an antibiotic- DOXYCYCLINE - you take as soon as possible after condomless sex and lowers your risks of getting syphilis, gonorrhea or chlamydia. This is an antibiotic commonly used to treat skin infections and acne and has been around for many years.

PrEP consultation and HIV prevention planning

You should consider being on doxyPEP if you:

  • are a man who has sex with men
  • you are transgender woman with multiple partners.
  • have had a STI in the past year.

We do not know if other populations (cis-women and men who have sex with women only) would benefit from this, as they have not been studied. This is something your doctor can discuss with you if it’s an option.

Note, DoxyPEP does NOT protect against HIV or Mpox.

How does it work?

Before starting, your doctor will test you for all STIs and HIV and will be following you on a routine basis.

This is not a 100% effective, but it can decrease bacterial infections as much as by 60%.

All of our doctors and advanced practitioners are experts on the field and will help you make a decision and follow up.
