Steven M. Pounders M.D.

Dr. Steven M. Pounders was born and raised in Dallas, TX and graduated from Hillcrest High School. He earned a BA from Austin College in Sherman, TX with a concentration in German and General Science. He played piano and oboe with the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra and the Sherman Symphony. He received his MD from UTMB in Galveston, and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. He began his work at UT Southwestern as co director of the AIDS clinic in 1988 for 1 year and then went in to private practice in Dallas.

He has privileges at Baylor University Medical Center, Texas Health Resources—Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, UT Southwestern as consultant, and is a member of the new Accountable Care Organizations Baylor Quality Alliance and at UTSW. He is medical director of the Resource Center of Dallas, is credentialed with the HIV Academy of Medicine and Board Certified in Internal Medicine. He is a major donor with HRC, sponsors the Black Tie Dinner of Dallas, Lambda Legal, and Legacy Counseling. He enjoys mid-century architecture and art and loves automobiles.

His motto is to give patients choice and knows that the best healthcare outcomes occur when patient and provider partner together.

Dr. Chad Nyland, DO

Dr. Chad Nyland is a Dallas-Fort Worth native who was raised in the Mid-cities of the Metroplex. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology/Pre-Med at the University of North Texas in Denton. He then continued his journey of higher education at Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine at UNT Health Science Center where he earned his degree in Osteopathic Medicine in 2011. After three years of Family Medicine Residency Training at Methodist Charlton Medical Center of Dallas, he then joined UT Southwestern’s Family Medicine Clinic. After gaining more experience there, he then found a wonderful opportunity at Dr. Steven Pounder’s Office of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Nyland started working at Dr. Pounder’s office in October of 2015. He is glad to have joined such a thriving clinic in the Oaklawn/Dallas community, where he can continue to focus his care on acute issues and prevention and treatment of chronic conditions. Medical conditions of interest for him include: Diabetes, Hypertension, Allergies, HIV, Asthma, COPD, Depression, Anxiety and many more. Dr. Nyland loves to help, treat and educate his patients about their health ailments to empower them in taking an active role in their care.

Dr. Nyland enjoys dining out with friends and family, having a good night in with his favorite shows, and traveling when he can to tropical destinations. A motto that he aspires to is “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” - Nelson Mandela

Chad Crager, APRN, FNP-C

Chad Crager was born in Kansas, and grew up in Dallas, TX. His clinical background includes being a Registered Nurse since 2009. While working in Critical Care areas in the hospital setting, he furthered his education by attending Texas Woman's University. There he graduated with honors (Sigma Theta Tau) and earned a Master's in Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner. He is board certified through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and licensed with the Texas Board of Nursing.

During his educational training he realized the fulfillment in developing long lasting patient relationships as a provider in primary care and HIV medicine. In efforts to provide high-quality care he works to build a strong partnership with his patients to achieve disease prevention and health promotion. He achieved his professional goal to care for patients of his community when he joined Dr. Steven Pounders’ practice in 2017.

When Chad is not caring for patients, he is active in his local church and loves to explore different destinations and cultures. His favorite vacations usually include scuba diving to enjoy the vast world under the water.

Erin Simms, APRN, FNP-C, AAHIVS

Erin Simms joined our practice in 2019. She was raised in Garland, TX and served as a medic in the US military prior to pursuing nursing. She attended the University of Texas at Arlington and received a Master’s Degree of Science in Nursing and also attended Texas Women’s University receiving a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. She also has an Associate’s Degree of Science in Medical Lab Technology.

Erin’s clinical nursing experience includes seven years of Emergency Medicine with Baylor Scott and White and Medical City. She had the privilege of learning and working with Dr. Nyland and Dr. Pounders while pursuing her graduate degree and Nurse Practitioner licensure. Erin has received her HIV Specialist certification with the American Academy of HIV Medicine.

Erin’s goal as a healthcare provider is to educate and empower her clients to prevent chronic health diseases. When not working, Erin enjoys spending time with her family and pets. She also looks forward to traveling to new destinations and exploring new cultures.

Ryan Lomeda FNP-C

Ryan Lomeda was born and raised in the Philippines. He acquired Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Centro Escolar University in 2012. He moved to the United States in 2012 and started his career as a nurse at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Downtown Dallas in 2014 for five years as a medical-surgical telemetry nurse. During his time as a nurse, he wanted to be able to do more and provide more care for others; hence he pursued a Master's degree in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2019 at Texas Woman's University. Prior to joining the practice in 2022, he worked as a nurse practitioner for a pain management clinic.

His motto is, “there is always an opportunity to learn.” He loves to learn new things and find ways to explain them in simpler terms for me to understand so that it is easier to share and convey to others.

During his clinical rotation for his nurse practitioner program, he was interested in primary care focusing on HIV prevention and management. He did his clinical rotation with Chad Crager NP, Trew Deckard PA, and Dr. Steven Pounders.
