Steven M Pounders, MD
Steven Pounders, MD

Dr. Steven M. Pounders is a Dallas native and graduated from Hillcrest High School and Austin College, specializing in General Science and German. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, TX and completed his residency at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston. He is affiliated with multiple hospitals, including Baylor University Medical Center, Clements Hospital at UTSW and Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas, and has received numerous awards for his work, including for his service to the LGBTQ+ community and his role as an HIV specialist. He served as medical director for the Resource Center of Dallas for 29 years. In 2017 he joined MDVIP and enjoys practicing personalized concierge medicine.

One of Dr. Pounders’ patients was Ron Woodruff who started the Dallas Buyers Club to import and smuggle medications from other countries to sell to AIDS patients. Mr. Woodruff was the focus of the screenplay and subsequent movie of the same title starring Matthew McConaughey. Dr. Pounders served as Mr. Woodruff’s physician, as well as the primary physician for many of the club’s patients, treating them with evidence-based standardized medicine. For movie purposes, Dr. Pounders is portrayed by Jennifer Garner’s Dr. Eve Saks.

Nicholaos Bellos, MD, FIDSA, FACP
Nicholaos Bellos MD, FIDSA, FACP

Dr. Bellos is a native Texan born in San Antonio, Tx. He received his undergraduate education at Rice University in Houston, Tx and completed his undergraduate medical education at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston as well. He performed his Internal Medicine training at Tulane University Affiliate Hospital served as Chief Internal Medicine Resident.

He completed his Infectious Diseases Fellowship at the University of Miami School of Medicine and subsequently joined the medical school faculty in the Infectious Diseases/ HIV Division.

Dr. Bellos moved to Dallas in 1991 where he joined Dr. Kevin Murphy in private practice. Dr. Bellos has been caring for HIV impacted individuals since 1981 at the inception of the Montrose Clinic in Houston and was subsequently one of the founders of the NO AIDS Task Force in New Orleans during his residency at Tulane.

Dr. Bellos has over 60 articles as lead or second author, published regarding HIV therapeutics in major medical journals from his clinical research practice.

Susana Lazarte, MD, FIDSA
Susana Lazarte, MD

Dr. Lazarte is a Board-Certified Infectious Diseases physician with specialized expertise in HIV, sexual health, travel medicine, and general infectious diseases. She earned her medical degree from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru, and completed her Internal Medicine residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland Hospital. She went on to pursue an Infectious Diseases fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, including an additional year of advanced training in HIV care.

Dr. Lazarte joins us after 10 years as faculty at UT Southwestern, where she dedicated most of her career to caring for people living with HIV and AIDS. She remains deeply engaged in the North Texas community, advocating for health equity and expanding access to HIV and STI prevention and treatment services. In recognition of her contributions, she received a Service Award on World AIDS Day 2024 from the Dallas County Health Department and the local HIV community.

An empathic clinician and firm believer in patient-centered care, Dr. Lazarte emphasizes shared decision-making and building long-term, trusting relationships with her patients. She is bilingual in English and Spanish. Outside of work, she enjoys going on walks with her dog and sharing her love of soccer with her son.

Ryan Lomeda, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, AAHIV-S
Ryan Lomeda, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, AAHIV-S

Ryan is a dedicated and highly skilled Nurse Practitioner committed to delivering compassionate, patient-centered care. With a strong clinical background in family medicine, primary care, acute care, HIV prevention and treatment.

Throughout his career, Ryan Lomeda has been recognized for building strong patient relationships, promoting health education, and advocating for accessible, high-quality care. He is experienced in conducting comprehensive assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, and collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.

Ryan Lomeda holds a Master of Science in Nursing from Texas Woman’s University and maintains national board certification through the AANP. Passionate about continual learning, he remains actively engaged in professional development and stays current with best practices and advancements in the field.

Driven by a commitment to improving community health, Ryan Lomeda strives to empower every patient with the knowledge, support, and resources needed to achieve their highest level of wellness.

Erin Simms, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, AAHIV-S
Erin Simms, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, AAHIV-S

Erin is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and joined Dr Pounders’ group in 2019. Prior to her advanced practice career, she spent eight years in Emergency Medicine as a Registered Nurse where she found a passion for caring for patients with chronic health conditions. Erin interned with Dr Pounders which inspired her to pursue her AAHIV Specialist certification as well. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.



Jessica Chu, MPH, MPAS, PA-C, AAHIV-S
Jessica Chu, MPH, MPAS, PA-C, AAHIV-S

Jessica grew up in Greenville, MS. She made her way to Texas to attend Southern Methodist University and graduated in 2015 Cum Laude with a degree in Biological Sciences. She graduated in 2017 with a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from the University of Texas Health Science Center and then went on to earn her Master of Physician Assistant Studies at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 2019. She is credentialed by the American Academy of HIV Medicine as an HIV Specialist. Jessica strives to provide open, collaborative, compassionate, and evidence-based care to her patients. Her interests include community advocacy and education, HIV medicine, disease prevention, and chronic care management. In her free time, she enjoys international travel, cooking, trying new restaurants, rose gardening, and spending time with her two rat terriers.
